연희동의 남쪽이라고 불리는 연남동은 과거 대중교통과 접근성이 열악하고 인근지역과 단절되어, 그동안 조용한 주택가로 유지되었다. 연희동은 고급 단독주택 위주로 이루어진 반면 연남동은 오래된 연립 및 다세대주택이 현재에도 즐비하다.
해당 프로젝트는 이 경의선숲길 공원과 동진시장 사이에 위치해있다. 그 사이를 오가며 불특정 다수의 방문객이 지나쳐간다. 주변에는 오래된 단독주택, 그 단독주택을 수리해서 이용하는 상가, 새로이 들어선 건물들이 매우 혼재되어 있다. 구불구불한 연남동 이면도로가 그 혼란스러움을 더 극대화한다. 건물은 사람보다 스케일이 크다. 그리고 좁은 골목일수록 그 스케일감은 더 증대된다. 그렇기에 도로가 좁을수록, 바라보는 건물의 시선이 가까울수록 입체적인 효과도 커진다.
Yeonnam-dong, called the south of Yeonhui-dong, used to be a quiet residential area due to poor accessibility to public transportation and isolation from neighboring areas. Yeonhui-dong is mainly composed of high-end single-family homes, while Yeonnam-dong is still full of old townhouses and multi-family homes.
The project is located between this Gyeongui Line Forest Park and Dongjin Market. An unspecified number of visitors pass by as they pass by. The surrounding area is a very mixed mix of old single-family homes, stores that have renovated the single-family homes, and newly built buildings. The winding back streets of Yeonnam-dong further maximize the confusion. Buildings are larger in scale than people. And the narrower the alley, the greater the sense of scale. Therefore, the narrower the road and the closer the line of sight from the building, the greater the three-dimensional effect.
